Don’t “Skirt” the Issue – 4 Tips to Finding Your Perfect Skirt

Up or down, up or down?   That is the question every year with the skirt length.  What is the answer?  The answer depends on YOU!  Women come in all different sizes and shapes, and we can buy skirts in all different shapes, lengths, and colors to make us look fabulous.  Let’s take this privilege to use it to our greatest advantage.

1.         Body type.  The key to looking great in a skirt is finding that perfect skirt for your body!  Which of the descriptions below most defines your body?

2.         Is your body very straight? There is not much change in size from your chest to your waist to your hips?  The perfect skirt for you is one that tapers slightly in at the bottom and that sits low on the waist. Low waisted skirts will help elongate your torso.  Skirts with lace or ruffles will work well, but avoid heavy pleats.  Thin legs?  By all means, show them off! Short skirts that are fitted around the hips and have a flare at the bottom will add curves.

  1. macys-a-line-skirtDo you feel your hips enter the room before the rest of you?  The best skirt for your body type would be the a-line skirt.  This drapes smoothly down your hips and flares at the bottom.  Skirts with vertical details and the skirt length should hit right below the knee or at the ankle.  Avoid hemlines well above the knee or that hit the widest part of your calf.

4.         Do you have a curvy figure like Beyonce or Mariah Carey?  I know, we all wish to look like them, but I digress.  If you are so lucky, choose skirts that accentuate your waist and gorgeous gams.  The pencil skirt was made for you!  This style accentuates those enviable curves.   Avoid skirts that are too large or saggy, but also avoid too tight or hip-hugging.  You can also pull off short skirts.  I did mention gorgeous gams, right?

So, no more “skirting” the issue ladies; we all now have the 4 keys to finding a great skirt.  Now for the fun part – let’s go shopping.  Visit Macy’s or Ann Taylor for a great selection of these skirts and fun things to match!
